Dear Friends,
As previously mentioned, flu started again at JACK and this mainly because of the heavy rains we currently have here in Southern DRC. The chimps are usually sick in January (rains) and in July (cold) and this year we were so happy January went by without any runny nose…
Unfortunately, February started with bad coughs and … fever. Maya, Kala,Jacky, Seki, Wanza and Tika aren’t doing great and poor Joma, a 5-year-old male chimp which arrived at JACK in Oct 2009, has been completely isolated and under 24h a day attention and care.
High fever (between 39.7 and 39.4) started last Thursday and lasted 2 days. On Saturday, we were glad his temperature had come down (36.7) and we all were extremely relieved to see Joma standing and eating….
On Sunday, things turned to be different as fever started again (39.4 all day) which obliged us to change the medication immediately. Again Joma refused any food nor drinks and even rejected all oral drugs.
We hope today fever won’t come back and that the new treatment is working well. Joma’s temperatures last night were normal (36.5) and I just called the keeper who says there is some improvement…
I’ll come back later with more news

Poor baby. I hope he recovers quickly. Hugs to you and team.
lol, I meant « big » hugs, not « bug » hugs!
Oh, poor Joma, I do hope things improve for him soon. And bug hugs to you and Franck.
Oh I am so sorry to hear that Joma is not fairly very well and the same for the others.
My prayers are with these little sweethearts :>)
Pauvre Joma!!!
J’espère que tout rentrera dans l’ordre rapidement et que tout ceci ne sera plus qu’un mauvais souvenir!
Il a l’air tellement mal en point sur ces photos…
Tenez bon!
