Remember the three lesulas (KEMA, HOKA, KAVU) and the diademed monkey (SHAKO) recently rescued during our ‘LODJA 6’ mission. When we first shared their story, they had just arrived, some exhausted and in fragile condition.
Today, our four friends have settled into our Nursery, where they are spending their final weeks of quarantine. Like the other 10 individuals from this rescue operation, they have been closely monitored by our dedicated veterinarian, Dr. Calvin, alongside our team of caregivers and surrogate mothers.
A small update on young SHAKO, who initially shared space with KAVU before arrivng at J.A.C.K.: due to severe intestinal parasites and his advanced malnutrition, he has been separated from KAVU, the large female lesula who looked after him before they arrived at our sanctuary. KAVU now completes her quarantine alongside the other two members of her species, while SHAKO is paired with NESHA, a young black-crested mangabey also receiving treatment for similar intestinal parasites.
Thanks again to all the associations, partners, and friends of J.A.C.K. who made this recent rescue possible. Because of your support, these young primates have a real chance to integrate into a group of their own species, with hopes of one day returning to their natural habitat.
