The subspecies of chimpanzees we are taking care of has a pale face when they are young and it darkens once they reach adulthood.
Also, chimpanzees can get sunburnt! If you look at Maïka’s picture, her eyelids are less dark than her face. This means that skins less exposed to the sun get less coloured (eyelids, back of the ears).
